This is the first time in the trip that we feel like we are actually “living” abroad rather than touring. The distinction being created when you are a) staying in the same place for more than a week, b) when you know the local shops and where the best grocery deals are, c) when you have sent parcels to and from, and finally d) when you know which day is garbage day and you put out the ‘rubbish’. This is our first stop where we have had a minute to stop and rest the weary feet (travel callouses are still building with 20,000 steps a day) and it is also giving us a minute to figure out what we are doing to educate our child come September.
So here is the conundrum: our kid is going into grade 9 and there are two options for her education. One is that we opt for asynchronous learning (video learning) from our home province in Canada. It’s free, but she has to take all 5 core subjects which is quite a bit of daily devotion to the books, which are physical textbooks and kinda heavy. Option 2 is that we teach her ourselves and pray she learns something. Back to school is going to be interesting this year as we try some immersive learning.
